Pacers Coach Rick Carlisle Disputes Calls, Cites Missed Opportunities in Knicks Series Deficit

Thhttps://www.highcpmgate.com/yi3h1dt2u4?key=e3c13073a434d5d24716e951d866c6e0e Indiana Pacers face an uphill battle in the Eastern Conference Semifinals after dropping the first two games to the New York Knicks. While the series has shifted back to Indianapolis for Game 3, frustration is simmering on the Pacers' bench, particularly regarding officiating.

Head coach Rick Carlisle has taken issue with the way the games have been called, compiling 78 instances of what he believes were incorrect calls or missed calls that went against the Pacers. These will be submitted to the league for review, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst.

"New York can get ready," Carlisle declared after Game 2, a 130-121 Knicks victory. "They'll see them too [referring to the disputed calls]. I'm always talking to our guys about not making it about the officials, but we deserve a fair shot," Carlisle said [as reported by Windhorst].

Carlisle's frustration stems from a belief that the Pacers haven't received a fair shake from the referees. He pointed to several questionable calls in Game 1 and a perceived lack of officiating balance across the first two games.

However, some analysts believe Carlisle might be overlooking other factors. The Pacers, despite holding halftime leads in both games and leading by as much as 12 points in Game 2, squandered their opportunities. They struggled to contain a depleted Knicks team missing key players like OG Anunoby, Jalen Brunson, Bojan Bogdanovic, and Julius Randle for the remainder of the season. Mitchell Robinson is also sidelined for at least six weeks.

The Pacers were particularly outplayed in the third quarter, losing the scoring margin by a significant 36-18. Additionally, they were heavily outrebounded in the final frame, losing the battle 26-13 after holding a rebounding advantage in the first half.

There were internal criticisms within the Pacers camp as well. Despite a strong showing from guard T.J. McConnell (10 points, 12 assists) in the first three quarters, his playing time inexplicably dwindled to just five minutes in the crucial final period.

Let's not pretend like (officiating) is the only reason we lost; we just didn't play good enough," Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton acknowledged, according to Windhorst's report. "We've just got to be better."

While the officiating may be a point of contention, the Pacers need to focus on correcting their own shortcomings. They must demonstrate better execution and close out games with more consistency if they hope to overcome the 2-0 series deficit.
